Sir, - I agree with John McGeorge (May 17th) that Jackie Healy-Rae and his supporters are not morons. On the contrary, it is obvious that Jackie Healy-Rae is an intelligent, articulate public representative. This is why I find his racist views so much more disturbing than, for example, the xenophobic comments of Mr McGeorge.
But it seems to me that the really important question here is this: if Jackie Healy-Rae is as cute as we think he is, then it follows that he has his finger firmly on the pulse of his electorate. Are we to assume then that he is speaking on behalf of the majority of the people of Kerry? I suppose we must wait until the next election to find out. - Yours, etc.,
