Asterisks and letters

Sir, – A letter writer (September 11th) wants an asterisk to warn the humourless about the dangers of humorous letters.

I don’t need such a hint as anything with Donald Trump, Brexit and presidential hopefuls cannot be made up and if anything would warrant several asterisks.

Anyway, we should move with the times. Instead of an asterisk, how about a smiley? – Yours, etc,
