Madam, – May I respectfully suggest that the positions of Cian Caffrey (April 18th) and Dean Moore (April 19th) on our “voiceless generation” are not entirely irreconcilable.

I emigrated upon graduation in 2009, and am indeed enjoying the benefits of tax-free employment in sunnier climes. I am keen to be part of rebuilding our nation, but I fail to see how being at home, most likely claiming social welfare, would contribute to that right now.

Rather, like many of my generation, I will stay a few years here, expanding on the State-funded education I received by gaining valuable experience and knowledge. With this in hand, I will return ready and able to contribute to Ireland’s future.

Emigration is not abandonment nor is staying behind our salvation. – Yours, etc,
