Madam, - So now we are expected to pay for selecting seats on aircraft? Is there no end to this nonsense? The last time I travelled with Aer Lingus the seating was so cramped that I had to sit for two hours with my knees apart. Little wonder that the emergency exit row is at a premium.
I'm reminded of a sketch by a Dublin comedian where the in-flight announcement goes: "Should there be a loss of cabin pressure, an individual oxygen mask will lower automatically. Please have the correct change to pay for this as the cabin staff are under pressure." - Yours, etc,

Madam, - I would like to announce my new business venture - a low fares coach company offering journeys between Dublin and Cork for one cent.
All tickets are one-way, and will be subject to a €5 insurance levy, a €5 administration fee, a €5 fuel surcharge, and a €2.50 credit card booking fee.
Booked seats will be available as an optional extra. Premium (extra leg-room) seats will cost €25; all others €10. Families who wish to sit together should pre-book their seats, as I cannot guarantee availability otherwise.
Luggage is not included in the standard fare. The charge will be €8 per bag if paid at the bus terminal, or €4 otherwise; however, it will be subject to a maximum weight of 15kg after which an additional €5 per kilo will apply.
In the unlikely event that it becomes necessary to cancel a service, a full refund will be available on application in writing, with the exception of the administrative and credit card fees, both of which are non-refundable.
I encourage potential passengers to book early, as demand for such low fares will be very strong. - Yours, etc,
RICHARD BANNISTER, Pembroke Square, Ballsbridge, Dublin 4.
