Sir, – David Potterton’s letter (February 13th) espouses the benefit of hunting to prevent attacks and transmission of rabies.

First, the UK and Ireland are free of rabies, as are most parts of western Europe. Second, this attack was not in a village but a large suburban area of London.

Unless Mr Potterton wants the hunt to ride down the dual carriageways, this is more an issue of pest control than rural hunting. – Yours, etc,
