A capital construct

Sir, – Fintan O’Toole (“A capital construct: Dublin city as a cultural centre”, Weekend Review, April 13th) suggests Dublin City Council might consider a Museum of Asian Art combining the Chester Beatty Museum with the Alfred Bender collection in Collins Barracks.

However, he neglects to mention that in the same building, still under wraps and unseen for many years, is an ethnographical collection of African Canadian and Pacific artefacts – some acquired by Irishmen who sailed with Capt Cook – that many scholars consider to be among the finest in the world. Surely it is high time that some part of this marvellous collection should equally be put on display? – Yours, etc,
