Sir, – In the late 1990s I was privileged to serve overseas with the Defence Forces in Cyprus.
We “lived out” in privately rented accommodation with the usual bills that one might expect. The odd one out was water, that was unexpected.
Some months it wasn’t unusual for the water bill to exceed the electricity bill.
A small trick to conserve water was to put a plastic basin into the shower in the morning. The water saved could be used for shaving, flushing the toilet, or watering the plants.
