Sir, – Patrick Smyth writes that after Viktor Orbán’s recent defeat in the Hungarian elections “Trump, with any luck, may follow.” (“Orbán was defeated by a vote too big to rig. Will Trump follow? “April 18th)

I am confused as to what exactly Smyth means by this. Trump is term-limited as president and will never run – and therefore never lose – another election in his life.

The Republican Party may suffer losses in the US midterm elections this year, but barring death Trump will remain in office until January 20th 2029.

The time for “defeating” Trump has long passed. – Yours, etc,
