We are missing a trick on recycling brown waste

What about introducing communal brown bins?

Sir, – In Ireland you see large recycling bins for various items in multi-dwelling residential complexes, shopping centres, schools, workplaces etc.

Mixed items (paper, plastic, tins etc) are put in these large bins, with the exception of glass which is put in designated glass-waste bins.

Why not introduce an individual large brown recycling bin designated for food and light yard waste recycling in these areas where possible?

Surely this would support the co-ordinated efforts across multiple communities in support of a greener, cleaner, healthier Ireland for future generations. – Yours, etc,

FIONA McMAHON,
