Sir, – Brian Kelly takes issue with the inclusion of Cork in Ireland’s Ancient East (Letters, June 18th).
If one were to perfectly place the island in a box, then split that box in two, giving you east and west, you would find that approximately 178km² of Co Cork (or 2.3 per cent) is in the east. That being an area from Youghal to just east of Castlemartyr, transecting Shanagarry to the south and the townland of Kilmacow to the north.
Appearances can be deceiving! – Yours, etc,
DÓNAL CASEY,
