Sir, – Further to the report that the Oireachtas Commission is considering the appointment of a poet laureate (News, April 25th), is that really necessary given that we elected a poet as President?
I am sure that President Higgins could be prevailed upon despite his hectic schedule to write a poem for nominated occasions and the Oireachtas Commission, having stirred the muse, can assume the task of listening to it, endlessly. – Yours, etc,
