Tanning lotion for an interesting shade of bronze

We liberally applied self-tanning lotion to our faces before our flight home from Gran Canaria

Sir, – Tom Gilsenan’s recollection of accidentally applying fake tan instead of sunscreen certainly raised a chuckle for this reader (Letters, July 17th).

I am reminded of a particularly enjoyable February fortnight in Gran Canaria when my friend and I were full of youthful exuberance. Our nights primarily revolved around bars and clubs, and as a consequence, daytime was for recovery with limited opportunities for sun exposure.

Undaunted, we liberally applied self-tanning lotion to our faces before our flight home, arriving at Dublin Airport a rather interesting shade of bronze. On that occasion, a friend was picking us up, and to this day I still giggle when I recall her double take while greeting us. Ah yes, simpler times. – Yours, etc,

FRANK J BYRNE,

Glasnevin,
