Dublin Bay wind farm

Monstrous constructions

Sir, – Ireland has ownership of over 40,000 square kilometres of sea and, while much of this is surely not available to build wind farms, it seems incredible that the only locations possible are shallow bays where the majority of the population live.

Finally, it is worth pointing out that with a given turbine blade pointing vertically upward, each of the 61 turbines will reach a height equivalent to the Eiffel Tower – so these are monstrous constructions and will totally dominate Dublin Bay forever more.

Nobody is unaware of the bigger picture, but many are concerned about retaining the beauty of natural landscapes and seascapes as we move toward a more sustainable future. It’s unfortunate more do not demonstrate a similar concern to preserve our country for future generations in this regard. – Yours, etc,

KEVIN NOLAN,
