Sir, – It seems that every media report on the recent protest in East Wall regarding the housing of refugees includes the term “far-right elements”. While you will have the usual rent-a-crowd (both left and right) joining the fray, this term only serves to label all protesters, and is wholly unfair to those with legitimate reasons for protesting.
While it is our responsibility and right to house those fleeing war and persecution, the fact that we’ve had an accommodation crisis for several years has people asking why the same effort hasn’t been put into this emergency before.
