An article in last Thursday’s edition, concerning the final report of the child abuse commission, said that Ms Justice Mary Laffoy resigned as the chairwoman of the commission in 2003 because the Department of Education was refusing to co-operate fully with the commission’s demand for documents. While the commission did experience difficulties in retrieving some documents from the department, Ms Justice Laffoy pointed out, in her letter of resignation, that a general lack of co-operation by the department had rendered the commission powerless.

In the same edition, reference was made to a “Mr Restin”, who in 2003 was convicted of pornography offences and indecent assault of boys in Cappoquin, Co Waterford, and Passage East. In fact, the school referred to in the report of the commission was Passage West Industrial School.

RTÉ has pointed out that contrary to the inference in a report in yesterday’s newspaper, no bonus payments were made to managers in 2008 and none will be paid in 2009.
