Microchip producer Xilinx today announced it was moving its European headquarters to its new €52 million R&D centre in Dublin.

Xilinx also announced plans to establish an international technical support centre in Dublin. The move follows a decision to locate marketing operations in Dublin that will employ senior management.

The company confirmed it planned to complete a staff expansion plan that will see it employ some 500 people in the State. Some 340 staff work for the company in the Republic.

Mr Paul McCambridge, vice-president of Xilinx Europe, confirmed recruitment for the new roles has started.

The new facility was opened this morning by the Tánaiste, Ms Harney, and the Xilinx president and chief executive officer, Mr Wim Roelandts.

The company designs and produces semiconductor chips capable of being programmed individually for use in a wide range of electronic systems.
