The worst of the bad weather is over, but we are not out of the woods yet, according to Met Éireann. Today and tomorrow won't be anything like as stormy as yesterday but the weather will remain very unsettled.

A combination of factors caused much of the flooding. Rainfall was by no means exceptional, but it was combined with unusually high tides and rising sea levels. The high tides have peaked but are expected to stay high for a day or two.

Today will be brighter. However, there will be frequent heavy showers, some of hail. There will also be thunder storms, particularly in the north-west. It will be mainly dry this evening and tonight in the south and west.

Tomorrow is expected to be dry and bright in most places. However, another belt of rain is expected to cross the country tomorrow night.
