The Fine Gael leader, Mr John Bruton, has been elected senior vice-president of the Christian Democrat International in Madrid.
Delegates from 76 Christian Democrat parties throughout the world elected the former Taoiseach and president of the European Council to the position at the weekend. Mr Bruton has been asked to develop the CDI organisation throughout Europe and north America.
