Vienna - Around half a million women are victims of human trafficking into the EU, two thirds of them from impoverished ex-communist states in central and eastern Europe, officials said yesterday. The European Commissioner for Justice and Home Affairs, Ms Anita Gradin, said the collapse of the Warsaw Pact bloc had sparked widespread social disorder which pushed thousands of women to seek their fortunes in western Europe.
