Sheffield - A woman in charge of two eight-year-old girls who drowned during a birthday outing yesterday walked free from court.

Wendy Dodd (41), had been drinking and had smoked cannabis when the girls drowned in the River Wharfe West Yorkshire, Sheffield Crown Court heard.

A jail sentence totalling 15 months was imposed but suspended for two years because of the defendant's severe mental problems.
