Woman dies in crash in north Cork

A 65-year-old woman from Mallow has been killed in a two vehicle crash near Castletownroche in north Cork this morning.

A 65-year-old woman from Mallow has been killed in a two vehicle crash near Castletownroche in north Cork this morning.

The woman was travelling with her nine-year-old granddaughter when her car collided with a truck at 10.10am at Rea’s Cross on the Mallow to Fermoy road.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The girl was not hurt in the crash.

The driver of the truck, a man in his 50s from North Cork, was also uninjured but was badly shaken and was treated for shock.

The road remains closed pending an examination by a forensic crash investigator and local diversions are in place.
