Minister for Transport Martin Cullen will today open improvement schemes on the M7-N7 and the Naas Road, which are designed to ease congestion for traffic approaching Dublin city from the south and south-west.
The National Roads Authority says that the 14.5km N7 widening scheme was one of the most complex road engineering projects to date. It involved adding a third lane in each direction on the N7 dual carriageway between Rathcoole and Naas, providing a number of grade-separated junctions and eliminating traffic-light-controlled junctions.
The Naas Road caters daily for more than 60,000 vehicles. Improvements to 5.4km of the N7 between Rathcoole and the Kildare county boundary were also carried out.
Meanwhile, new works on the M50, which will continue for five years, will affect motorists from today. A third lane is to be added and junctions improved. A temporary speed limit of 60 km/h (40mph) is in place from the West-Link to the Ballymount interchange.
