Gardaí in Wicklow are today investigating a break-in at Ashford Garda Station which they say may have been an attempt to burn down the building.
Gardaí and a fire brigade went to the scene shortly after the fire alarm sounded in the station shortly at around 4 a.m.
There were signs of a break-in at the rear of the building and papers had been gathered in a pile in the middle of the floor in one room and set alight.
A number of items including garda torches are reported to be missing. The scene has been preserved for a more detailed forensic investigation.
