Mr Richard Godsil, who died last night, had a long and distinguished career in Irish business

Mr Richard Godsil, who died last night, had a long and distinguished career in Irish business. He was a board member of the Irish Sugar Company between 1957 and 1975 and was appointed chairman of the board by the then Minister for Finance, Mr Charles Haughey, in 1969.

He also was joint managing director of Fry-Cadbury (Ireland) Ltd; a director of Erin Foods; and a board member of Bord Iascaigh Mhara and Bord Bainne during his career. He was the longest-serving member of the Bord Bainne board, serving with Dr Tony O'Reilly, Mr Joe McGeough and Mr Brian Joyce.
