A man (19) has died after the car in which he was driving crashed in the early hours of this morning in Co Cork, bringing the number of people who have died on Irish roads this weekend to three.

The driver was killed when he lost control of his vehicle at Manch West, Dunmanway, shortly before 1am. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The main Dunmanway to Bandon Road remains closed until further notice while members of the gardaí carry out a forensic examinations of the area.

Overall, three people have died on roads in Ireland this weekend.

Yesterday, a man (36) died as a result of a crash that took place around mid-day on the R363 at Slanemore, Ballynacargy in Co. Westmeath. The jeep the man was driving hit a post in front of a house.

The man wastaken to the Midlands Regional Hospital at Mullingar where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

In addition, a woman (24) died after the car in which she was travelling in crashed in Co Laois in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The vehicle in which the woman was a passenger collided with the side of a building at approx 2.50am at Rossleaghan, Portlaoise.

The 26 year old male driver of the car was taken to Portlaoise General Hospital with serious injuries.

Gardaí also said yesterday that a man (80) who was involved in a serious car collision in Co Kerry on Wednesday afternoon has died.

The man, who was the driver of a car which collided with a lorry at around 4pm at Garranearagh, Caherciveen, was taken to Kerry General Hospital with serious injuries along with a woman who was travelling with him. The driver of the truck meanwhile was taken to Cork University Hospital.
