Weather conditions have hampered marine rescuers in their search for a Polish fisherman who was swept out to sea off rocks near Kilkee, Co Clare on Sunday.

Rescuers could only carry out a cliff-line search this afternoon because of a strong swell off the north Clare coast.

Piotr Bedzlowicz (35) from Laskowice in northern Poland had been angling off rocks with a friend on Sunday afternoon when a wave swept both men into the sea.

Mr Bedzlowicz's friend was washed back onshore within minutes and managed to scramble up to safety and raise the alarm.
