Weather halts England's momentum

The Ashes:Play was abandoned without a ball being bowled on the third day of the third npower Ashes Test at Edgbaston. Umpires Rudi Koertzen and Aleem Dar called things off shortly after 2.30pm, after heavy afternoon rain left the outfield covered in huge puddles.

More wet weather - the opening day was restricted to just 30 overs - meant the start was delayed on the third morning. Despite a brief dry spell, scheduled inspections at 1.30pm and 2.30pm were rendered pointless.

Four super-soppers were in operation on the outfield for lengthy periods but they had not even had the desired effect by the time a further shower, following morning drizzle, took its toll.

England, with a 1-0 advantage in the npower series, are currently 116 for two in reply to Australia's 263 all out.
