Gardai are examining video footage which may show how a young Cork man died outside a Cork nightclub early yesterday. A Garda spokesman said a murder investigation was under way following the completion of a post-mortem examination on Mr Adrian Moynihan.

It is understood Mr Moynihan, from Spring Lane, Ballyvolane, who celebrated his 23rd birthday last week, was refused entry to Sidetrax nightclub at Grafton Street, near the city centre, after which an altercation occurred.

The emergency services were alerted just after midnight and Mr Moynihan was taken to the South Infirmary Hospital where he was pronounced dead two hours later.

A man who was questioned by gardai in connection with the incident was later released without charge from Bridewell Garda Station.

Garda Supt Kieran McGann said video footage from a security camera overlooking the street might be helpful to the investigation. He appealed for witnesses to contact the Garda at Anglesea Street on 021-4313031.
