Mr Alec Sisk (25), the son of the Irish building company director, Mr John Sisk, remains critically ill in a Sydney hospital following a fire at the weekend.

Mr Sisk suffered severe burns while trying to alert people in the two storey house where he lived to the fire. A 31 year old Englishman died in the blaze. He had also been trying to rescue the other occupants of the house.

Four of the occupants were sleeping upstairs in the house and after being awakened got on to a balcony and were rescued. Mr Sisk was later found downstairs.

Mr Sisk has been in Australia since February and was working for a trekking holiday company. His father had planned to go on a trekking holiday with him during the summer. A family spokesman said yesterday that his father and brother John Patrick had flown to Sydney to be with him.
