A viable explosive device discovered in south Dublin overnight has been made safe by the Army.

A viable explosive device discovered in south Dublin overnight has been made safe by the Army.

The improvised device was found beside a vehicle parked outside a home in Carrigwood in Firhouse in the early hours of this morning.

Gardaí cordoned off the area and requested the assistance of the Defence Forces, and local residents were moved to a safe location.

A controlled explosion was carried out by a bomb disposal team and the remains of the device were handed over to gardaí to assist with their investigation.
