A US Marine was killed in action in the restive al-Anbar province west of Baghdad.
A military statement did not give further details of the location or type of attack yesterday.
The province includes the flashpoint cities of Falluja and Ramadi. Since the invasion last year to oust Saddam Hussein, at least 615 US troops have been killed in action in Iraq.
