Washington - The US State Department censured the military government in Burma yesterday for harshly repressing its citizens by denying them the most basic social and political freedoms.

According to the State Department's annual report on human rights, its citizens cannot express dissenting political views, people continue to disappear and prisoners continue to be abused and tortured by security forces.
