NICOSIA - Cyprus yesterday denied talk of a deal to ease tensions on the island and Turkey said that nothing had change, dismissing a US claim that a looming crisis between the two countries was over.

The US envoy, Mr Carey Cavanaugh, left Cyprus on Monday talking of an imminent breakthrough to ease tension along the ceasefire line separating Greek and Turkish Cypriots. He said in Athens yesterday that the crisis about Cypriot plans to deploy missiles was over. But Cyprus called the US comments on the ceasefire line a misunderstanding and Turkey followed with fresh warnings that the crisis over the plan to buy Russian-made anti-aircraft missiles was not over.
