Rangoon - United Nations envoy Mr Razali Ismail left Burma yesterday after four days of meetings with pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi and the ruling military, but failed to meet the reclusive state's top general.

Mr Ismail remained tight-lipped throughout his visit, refusing to comment on progress in landmark reconciliation talks between Aung Suu Kyi and the government, except to say the UN would issue a statement in the near future.
