Soccer:Italian police have admitted gangs of Napoli's hardcore Ultra fans went out hunting Liverpool supporters to attack in the city last night ahead tonight's Europa League game at the Stadio San Paulo.

There were a number of incidents ahead of the match which resulted in five English people - two of whom were stabbed - and one Italian being taken to hospital.

Their injuries were not deemed to be serious and all were discharged after receiving treatment but it has prompted police to step up security ahead of the game.

There were three arrests made after the attacks and police recovered an array of weapons and Ultra paraphernalia from the home of one.

Among the weapons seized were a baseball bat, several five-foot long aluminium bars with numerous strategically-placed screws protruding and a six-foot wooden plank.

"Ultras went out seeking English fans, absolutely," said Filippo Bonfiglio, head of Digos, the local department which deals with terrorism and political activity.

"There are groups of violent supporters here in Naples so we could hypothesise something like this would happen but it was impossible to prevent every attack everywhere."

Meanwhile,Frank Rijkaard's agent insists they have not been approached by Liverpool.

Current Anfield boss Roy Hodgson's future has come under intense scrutiny following a disastrous start to the season. Rijkaard has been mentioned as a possible replacement with the Dutchman being made the strong favourite with some bookies following his departure from Galatasaray earlier this week.

However, Rijkaard's representative, Perry Overeem, insists he has had no contact with Liverpool and that the former Barcelona boss will not be rushing any decision over his future.

"We have not been approached by Liverpool," Overeem told Sky Sports News. "Frank's not thinking about any job at the moment - he wants to put what's happened in Turkey behind him. Frank's still in Turkey.

"Whenever we are approached, if we are approached, we will deal with that then but it's not helpful to get into rumours at this stage."
