NICOSIA - British military authorities in Cyprus sealed off one of their bases yesterday after Greek Cypriots stormed a military police compound and freed two people detained for illegal building.
Fifty British soldiers were sworn in as special constables on Monday night after scuffles with Cypriots demanding the release of the detainees.
Britain has held two military bases in Cyprus since independence in 1960.
