Ugandan presidential candidate Mr Kizza Besigye has rejected the result of the country's presidential election, claiming fraud by supporters of President Yoweri Museveni, who had a commanding lead in the vote count.

"We are rejecting the election completely," Mr Besigye's spokeswoman said.

"Our observers were thrown out of the Electoral Commission for five hours after we had reports that they had counted over 12 million ballots," she added.

The electoral register listed 10.6 million eligible voters for yesterday's poll.
