UEFA will not be investigating the spitting attack on Ruud van Nistelrooy during Manchester United's 1-1 Champions League draw with Nantes.
Van Nistelrooy, who equalised for United with a stoppage-time penalty, was spat at in the face. After the match, he argued with Nantes left-back Sylvain Armand in the tunnel.
Greek referee Kyros Vassaras did not mention the spitting incident in his official match report, and so UEFA say they will not be looking into the matter.
A UEFA spokesman said: "We have received the report of the referee. Nothing was mentioned in that report so no disciplinary case has been opened. That is it, full stop".
Sir Alex Ferguson had condemned the incident as "terrible" but said United would not be making an official complaint. Today United's position was unchanged and the club will not be taking the matter any further.
Van Nistelrooy was annoyed with Armand's antics throughout the game at the Stade de la Beaujoire and labelled his behaviour "quite dirty".
The Dutch international also said the Nantes players tried to put him off as he took his penalty in the fourth minute of stoppage time.
