UDP undecided over agreement support

The UDP was still undecided last night whether to continue its support for the Belfast Agreement.

After a meeting in north Belfast lasting more than two hours, party officers agreed to meet again next week to discuss the issue.

Party chairman Mr John White said that a vote would probably take place next week on the way ahead.

"It is such an important issue and it went into quite a lot of detail. We will be meeting again next week," he said.

He refused to comment on whether any pro-Agreement members threatened to resign if the party, which is linked to the UDA, decided to join the "No" camp.

Earlier this month, Mr McMichael said he would have to reconsider his position if the party opted to change its policy on the Agreement.
