Two new suspected cases of the so-called winter vomiting virus have been reported among staff at the 101-bed Sacred Heart Hospital in Carlow.

Twenty-one patients and nine members of staff have reported symptoms consistent with the virus since Thursday.

The hospital is closed to visitors and admissions in a bid to curb the spread of the suspected virus.

There have been no further suspected cases of the virus among patients since the weekend.
