International relief group Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) said today two of its six-member team in Baghdad had been missing since Wednesday, and announced it had suspended operations in Iraq.

"The four other members of the team are safe," MSF said in a statement, adding: "All MSF activities in Iraq have been suspended."

The team of six included an Italian surgeon, an Austrian anaesthetist and a Norwegian general practitioner, who were at work at the al-Kindi hospital in northeastern Baghdad. They were backed up by a French general manager and two support staff.

MSF did not say which members of the team were missing. The team had been in Baghdad for several weeks, MSF said.
