Two men have gone on trial at the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court for kicking another youth to death in an argument following a 21st birthday party.
Mr Glen Carroll (23), Strandmill Avenue, Portmarnock, and Mr Jonathan Dignam (24), Balgriffin, Co Dublin, have pleaded not guilty to unlawfully killing Mr Peter Joyce, aged 21, on August 13th, 2002.
Mr John O'Kelly SC, prosecution, said the incident happened at the end of the party after Mr Dignam became angry when Mr Joyce and his girlfriend, Ms Yvette Reid, got into the back of his car for a lift home.
When they refused to get out, the accused man went to talk to a group and as he did so Ms Reid began driving the car around the car-park. She hit Mr Dignam and another car and when the vehicle stopped, Mr Dignam and Mr Carroll began to punch and kick Mr Joyce.
