Addis Ababa - Ethiopia said yesterday it had shot down a civilian jet near its disputed border with Eritrea, killing a Swedish and a British national. A statement by the Ethiopian government said the aircraft was shot down on Sunday in its self-declared no-fly zone south of Eritrea and the bodies of a Swedish and a British national had been recovered from the wreckage.

Ethiopia declared a no-fly zone over its northern region last year at the start of a border war with Eritrea in which tens of thousands are reported to have been killed.
