Two men have appeared in court charged with attempting to murder a PSNI recruit shot in Co Fermanagh last week.

Gerard James McManus (26) from Fernhill, Letterkenny, Co Donegal and Kevin Barry Nolan (32) from Main Street, Blacklion, Co Leitrim appeared at Dungannon Magistrates’ Court this morning charged in connection with the attack in the village of Garrison on Saturday night.

In addition to the attempted murder charge, the two men also face counts of possessing a weapon and ammunition with intent to endanger life.

Mr McManus is additionally charged with using a firearm to resist arrest. The court was told he fired a shot when he was fired upon by police officers arriving on the scene.

Police Detective Sergeant Ronnie Gibson told District Judge Bernie Kelly that he could connect both men with all of the charges.

Neither man spoke during the brief hearing.

Both were remanded in custody to appear via videolink at Enniskillen Magistrates’ Court next month.
