A man and a woman have been arrested following an assault in which a man suffered serious head injuries.
The 40-year-old victim was attacked after a row at a house in the Rathcarrig area of Fermoy, Co Cork, last night.
The assault happened at about 8.30pm.
The arrested man and woman, both in their mid-20s, were detained at the scene and are being questioned at Fermoy Garda station.
Gardaí said the man is being treated at Cork University Hospital. The scene of the attack has been preserved for a technical examination.
