Two victims of republican paramilitary shootings were being questioned in Belfast tonight about the brutal murder of a Protestant.

The men were arrested in hospital where they were being treated after being shot last night in republican areas of west Belfast.

They were being questioned by detectives probing the killing of Mr David McDowell, who was battered to death in the loyalist Shankill Road area last week.

The 34-year-old was attacked as he carried a bed headboard towards a house he was moving into.
