Two men have been arrested following an incident last night in which a Garda car was rammed and a gun seized.

Shortly before 10.20pm, a call was made to Coolock Garda Station stating two men were sitting in a car outside a house in Clonshaugh, Co Dublin.

According to a Garda spokesman, a patrol car manned by two unarmed and uniformed gardaí arrived to find a silver coloured Audi A5, which then rammed the patrol car.

The Garda driver blocked the car, and both gardaí got out of the patrol car, smashed the driver and passenger windows of the Audi, and saw a gun inside the car.

A scuffle ensued in which an 18-year-old man was arrested; the other man, who had been wearing a balaclava that was removed during the struggle, fled into a nearby back garden.

Additional uniformed and plain-clothed gardaí arrived, and the area was cordoned off. A short time later, a 22-year-old man was arrested after he broke into an occupied house.

A loaded revolver was recovered in the car.

Both men are being held at Coolock Garda Station under Section 30 of The Offences Against The State Act.
