When the Ryder Cup captains Curtis Strange and Sam Torrance hold their respective press conferences shortly after lunch today (2.15 p.m. and 2.45 p.m.) it will be the first opportunity to learn of their chosen pairings for tomorrow¿s opening fourballs.
However, this much sought after information will be held back from public release until the captains officially announce their selections at 5 p.m. at the end of the opening ceremony which begins at 2.45 p.m.
Torrance gave his clearest indication yet that he has settled on his selection as the canny Scot sent out the same pairings for their final practice session today as he did yesterday.
The Ireland versus Sweden game made up of Padraig Harrington and Paul McGinley against Jesper Parnevik and Niclas Fasth was repeated. Yesterday the Dublin duo halved the front nine playing fourball then reverted to foursomes for the back nine which they won one-up.
Harrington and McGinley have proved their credentials in these formats before. They won the 1997 World Cup at the Kiawah Island, venue for the infamous `War on the Shore' Ryder Cup in 1991. More recently they won four out of a possible five points in the Seve Trophy at Druids Glen in April.
The third Irishman in the European team Darren Clarke was paired alongside Thomas Bjorn for the third day in succession, playing a foursomes match against Lee Westwood and Sergio Garcia, who had also played together yesterday.
Rookies Phillip Price and Pierre Fulke were also together for the third day running as they took on another pair from yesterday, Bernhard Langer and Colin Montgomerie. The teams will play just nine holes of practice today ahead of the official opening ceremony.
The European team had started at the 10th hole - subject of much debate over the use of the back tee, which would make it unlikely players will attempt to drive the green - with the United States starting from the first.
Indications from the American camp were less clear. Suffice to say Tiger Woods was in the same group as Mark Calcavecchia, again fuelling rumours that these two Florida residents will play together tomorrow.
