Toms withdraws from South African event

USPGA champion David Toms has withdrawn from the Sun City Golf Challenge, organisers said today.

USPGA champion David Toms has withdrawn from the Sun City Golf Challenge, organisers said today.

Toms was part of the exclusive 12-man field set to compete for a first prize of $2 million in the annual Sun City Golf Challenge from November 29th to December 2nd.

But tournament director Alastair Roper confirmed this morning Toms had withdrawn and would be replaced in the field by Germany's Bernhard Langer.

"The United States has issued a warning to its high profile personalities and sportsmen not to travel, but I think the fact that David has come off an exceptionally good year also has something to do with his decision to withdraw," Roper said.

"After such a good year, he's probably thinking of taking some time off with the family rather than travelling all this way to South Africa.

"If he'd had a less successful year, he might have been inclined to ignore the warning and still come".
