A toddler is among four people killed in crashes on Irish roads in the past 24 hours.
The two-year-old child was hit by a car driven by a relative on the Riverside Estate in Ballina, Co Mayo at about 1.20pm.
Earlier in Co Mayo, a man in his 50s died when the articulated lorry he was driving crashed at Ballyheane, on the Castlebar to Ballinrobe road.
Another man in his 50s died following a crash near Oranmore, Co Galway, this morning. The man’s car left the N6 at about 8.00am and crashed into a field.
It is understood the man lost consciousness at the wheel of his car and gardaí are treating the incident as a sudden death. His body has been brought to Galway University Hospital where a postmortem is to be carried out.
A man died yesterday afternoon following a collision in Co Wicklow. He was a front seat passenger in a car which was involved in a crash with another car at about 4.45pm at Mullinaveigue, Roundwood.
The man, named today as Laurence Cranny (56) of Collinswood, Collins Avenue, Dublin 9, was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was removed to Loughlinstown Hospital.
The two other occupants of the car in which he was travelling along with the driver and sole occupant of the other car were taken to St Vincent's Hospital. Their injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
Gardaí have appealed for anyone who was on the road between Kilmacanogue and Roundwood between 2.30pm and 4.00pm to contact them.
